About The Director
Janeen Ceparano Wilkins, Orchestra Director of the East Anchorage High School Orchestra program is a teacher and performing violinist and violist who completed her Master of Music and Bachelor of Music Degrees at the Eastman School of Music in New York State. Her studies there, in addition to viola performance, involved String Pedagogy, Chamber Music and Arts Administration. She also completed her teaching certificate at Montana State University's Northern Plains Transition to Teaching Program.
Prior to coming to Anchorage, Alaska she was an active performer and teacher of strings and chamber music, throughout the State of New York. Her teaching settings include private and group lessons, chamber music, and string orchestra.
She is currently the President-elect of the Alaska Chapter of the American String Teacher’s Association representing Alaska teachers nationally. She has performed with the Anchorage Festival of Music, adjudicated the Solo and Ensemble Festival locally and is a current faculty member of the Alaska String Camp. She has over 18 years of teaching experience with students of all age groups and levels in strings and founded the String program and beginning string orchestra at the Rilke Schule Elementary and Middle school. East High School is near and dear to her heart, where she has also spent four years as part of the East High School French faculty. She has been Orchestra Director at East since 2016.
Janeen is the recipient of several awards including the Career Development Grant from the American Association of University Women, the Eubie and Marion Blake Memorial scholarship, the Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship given to artists and musicians studying in Paris, France and the Rochester Chapter LINKS scholarship for African American students of the Eastman School. She is a former faculty member of both the Hochstein Music School and the Eastman Community Music School. She enjoys living in Anchorage with her husband, Lee Wilkins and son Brendan. She enjoys performing locally, Argentinian Tango dancing and rock climbing in her spare time.

We are the largest high school in the State of Alaska and rated the most diverse school in North America! We have students that speak over 100 languages and come from cultures all across the globe. East high school serves a student body that has the biggest school spirit in the State. Our Fine Arts programs are no different, specifically our Orchestra program. We have been selected three times as a Grammy signature school and have numerous students who are successfully chosen for All-State and All North West music festivals.
